James Dickson
Senior Pastor
Anna, Pierce, Blair, Stuart, and I moved to Trussville in August of 2011 to begin the work of planting Christ Church PCA. It was a journey the Lord had been preparing us for all of our lives, but one that we have only recently been able to see more clearly. Prior to our call to ministry and my transition to seminary, I believed that my identity was in Christ, though I often struggled with placing that identity in my various roles as a husband, father, and business man. Anna and I met while students at Auburn University, and were married just a couple of years after graduation. I then went on to Emory University in Atlanta for an MBA. Following Emory, Anna and I began to have kids, and I started a career in business. Initially, that led me to the world of finance, working for what was then known as Wachovia Bank. After several years, we moved to North Carolina and joined my father-in-law in the family homebuilding and development business. There we stayed until, in the midst of the housing downturn, we shut down our business, and I submitted to the call to ministry.
Those past experiences are part of who I am and God has used them all to prepare me for ministry, but there is so much more that is important to why we are here in Trussville to plant Christ Church PCA. Most significantly, my identity is still in Christ, but God has added the role of church planter and has has called us to this ministry, in this place, at this time.
Personally, I love the doctrines of grace! I love the doctrine that, we in the PCA, hold so dear. I love the Word of God. But most of all, I believe God has called us to this ministry so that we might reach the hearts of the people in Trussville with the message of Jesus Christ’s redeeming love. When I am not doing the work of the church, I am usually spending time with my wife and 3 children. I like to exercise. I love to talk football. I also love to fish, though I am a better fisherman when I have someone with me, guiding me along the way.
This is who I am and a little of who we are. Our family is thankful to be here in Trussville, and thankful that God has placed us in His Church. We look forward to sharing it with you.
