“But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.” Matthew 15:18
The Pharisees had everything right on the outside, but their hearts were unclean. Like a “whitewashed tomb” (Matthew 27), they honored God with their lips, but their hearts were far from him (Isaiah 29). Christ Church’s youth group is not in the business of producing covenant chameleons, counterfeits who know not to cuss but don’t know the Father. What we’re after is transforming hearts.
Thankfully, the transformation that comes with a renewed mind (Romans 12) is not the work of the youth minister but rather of the living and active Word of God that’s sharper than any two-edged sword, that pierces our very souls (Hebrews 4). Please pray for us, specifically that our youth would honor God with their lips and also with all of their heart, soul, and might (Deuteronomy 6).
